Indian writing in English

(In this post we will know about some Indian English poets, who are famous for their English writings.)

 Sri Aurobindo

Birth-15 August 1871 at Calcutta in Bengal.
Parentage-Shri Krishanadhan and Swamalata. Dr. Krishanadhan Bose was a medical officer. Mother Swamalata was the eldest daughter of Rishi Raj Narayan Bose.
In December 1948 he was awarded the national prize for or Humanities at Andhra university convocation.
Death-5th December 1950 at Pondicherry.

Famous works-vande mataram, karmayogi, the harmony of virtue and many others poems based on bhartiya sanskriti, mahabharat and bhagavad Gita.
Savitri-savitri is is an epic written by Sri Aurobindo. It is a long narrative poem divided into twelve books and 49 cantos. Total of 24000 lines includes one of the the longest epics of the world.
Its theme is lofty style is sublime and metre is blank verse.
Main characters are Savitri and Satyavan. Ashwapati is the father of Savitri. Narad and Yama is also appears.


Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore was born in Calcutta on 7th may 1861 in a Brahmo family of Bengal.
His father Devendra Nath was a thinker and philosopher and mother sarla Devi was the mistress of a big household.
After his mother's death in 1875 kadambari Devi was kids care taker who died in 1884.
Tagore was married to Mrinalini Devi on December 9, 1883.
She was taken part in Swadeshi movement in 1905.
In November 1913 Tagore was awarded the Nobel prize for literature for the English translation of Gitanjali.
Death-he died on 7th August 1941.

Tagore's major works

Gitanjali,The crescent moon ,The gardener fruit, Gathering, lovers gift are some important poems.
Sadhana ,creative unity, the religion of man, chitra,post office, cycle of spring, stray birds are some important works.

Gitanjali is Tagore's famous work that is written in Bengali but Tagore translated it in English for this he got Nobel prize in 1913. It is written in verse libre. Gitanjali means 'song offring'. It is based on Bhagwat Geeta.


Nissim Ezekiel

Nissim Ezekiel is one of the most prominent Indian poets writing in English. He was born in the year 1924 in Bombay. He was a Jew by is father and mother both are the principal of college.
He took his master degree in English literature in 1947.
He had been invited abroad several times on assignments. He took lecture tour of America, USA and Australia during 1967 to 1975.
Other than his teaching assignments he also worked as director of the theatre unit at Bombay. He was also a member of general assembly of Lalit Kala academy and sahitya academy.

Death-Nissim ezekiel passed away on January 12,  2004 .
