Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in Tirumani, a small village in Tamil Nadu. His father Sarvepalli Viraswamy was a poor Brahmin. His mother's name was Sitamma Devi. Despite being born in a poor Brahmin family, he achieved many achievements with his talent.

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan contributed as a member of the Constituent Assembly from 1947 to 1949. After that he also took his step in politics. There were challenges as well, they played their role by accepting all these challenges boldly.
He was the Vice President from 13 May 1952 to 13 May 1962 and was elected to the post of President on 13 May 1962. His tenure was full of challenges. At this time India was at war with Pakistan and China and India had to lose to China.

Dr. Radhakrishnan died on April 1975 after a prolonged illness. His contribution in the field of education is always remembered. Teacher's Day is celebrated every year on his birthday (September 5) to remember his invaluable contribution. Radhakrishnan was posthumously awarded the Templeton Prize by the US government in 1975, which is awarded for the advancement in the field of religion.
